Award winning national image spot, "True Stories Channel" Director/Producer
I pitched the concept for this spot, researched the music and presented a variety of choices to management of the channel and upper management of the creative services department. I researched media, i.e. photo and video, choices through Getty Images and other outlets for approval in the package. Storyboards were created and I pre-produced the shoot for images that would be shot that would match quality and consistency of stock footage. I worked in conjunction with the production services department to schedule and budget the shoot and hire director of photography and other positions. I directed the casting call and presented choices to channel management and worked with them to cast the shoot. I worked with the graphics department to develop and create a style and feel for the overall look of the piece. I directed the cast and crew and worked with production services to complete the 35mm film shoot on time and on budget. I produced the shoot through post-production, working with graphics, editing, and sound to finish the spot for air. We created different running times so the spot could air as often as possible on the channel and off channel for cross channel promotions. I created the quality control sheets and both sound mixed and channel separate versions and logged the time codes and tape locations where they could be found for future use.
National PSA Make-a-Wish Foundation Director
I presented this idea to management as an opportunity to help the non-profit “Make-a-Wish Foundation” and STARZ ! agreed to provide a budget and post-production services for this PSA. I worked with our production services department to hire the crew for the shoot by going over resumes and demo reels for the principal crew and scheduled with the Make-a-Wish Executive Director and staff to shoot Anna and her friends on their day at the mall. I acquired all permits needed and secured location releases and personal releases from all venues and persons appearing in the piece. I directed the crew on the day of the shoot and worked with our special “talent” to make sure we captured the footage that we needed as well as enough B-roll to cover the piece. I coordinated with the Make-a-Wish foundation staff to create a piece that was impactful yet positive. The piece was very well received by management at STARZ and the Make-a-Wish Foundation board of directors.
National Commercial spots demos
For all of the above spots I viewed and logged footage from each film in AVID Media Composer which included transcribing complete clean quotes and sound bites that could be used to drive the script. The process included finding needle drop music from the STARZ! Music library checking tapes out, scheduling off-line low resolution digitization of the clips graphics and music scheduling and directing voice talent in remote locations and in our sound booth timing reads off of scratch tracks to make sure that each read fit the existing timing and pace. I created AVID edit layoffs for approval to proceed to On-Line full resolution and versioning of each spot which could be as many as 30 different versions for channel air and cross channel promotion. I worked with editors, graphics and sound designers to create each spot. Each piece has a specific feel designed for the audiences of the particular channel it was being produced for.
Attribute multi-movie themed promos
These spots include all of the pre-production as the preceding spots however there were as many as 15 movies to view log and create a coherent exciting package that drove the audience to specific films and date time parts. I worked with the different “Channel Directors” to design and create the most powerful effect using the films we had in window. All of these spots were created in a multi-tasking environment where I spent anywhere from 2 to 4 days a week in various forms of edit bays while still logging, scheduling and participating in meetings with different channel directors to make changes and update directors on the progress of each piece.
Long form & Campaign Spots
The above are campaign and long form pieces that included shoots to support footage to promote movies and channel concepts.
“There’s a little Cowboy in all of us” I created the concept for this image campaign for the Westerns Channel. I pitched the concept of shooting as many “man/woman on the streets of New York that we could find singing classic Western songs that we had made sure were non-copy written or that we had acquired the rights for. I created a budget to shoot on 16mm film with a crew of 4 in New York City in June. All of the participants were people I approached and asked to participate. We shot in over 20 locations and created over 15 packages that were evergreen for the channel. We had releases signed on the spot and I directed the telecine transfer and color correction in New York before returning and continuing the post-production in Denver. All of the footage was shot by our crew including the B-roll that I used to create the opening for each package. The pieces were named finalists in the New York Promotional Festival.
STARZ Movie News, “Zodiac” One of many “junket” shoots I went on where we had scheduled time with the stars to do interviews , generally only a few minutes each, and shot the red carpet opening night to create a piece that was time sensitive and aired on the opening weekend of the movie.
Encore Movie Channel, “Sci-Fi Invasion promo"
I included this in the “doing something with nothing” category. The stunt was pushed on air in many different promos and incarnations. This was supposed to be footage that would tie actual “events” and people into the movie promos. The footage was shot out of state during a UFO convention so it could not be recreated. As you can see the footage was completely blown out and mostly un-useable. I was tasked to see if I could create a piece so the shoot was not a total loss. I worked with the editor as we used the footage, desaturated it, put noise in, and placed it in the graphics package to create the look of interference.

Industrial Demo spots
Denver Office Of Cultural Affairs Information spot This spot was shown at the Temple Buell theater and introduced by then mayor John Hickenlooper. It was a piece where I was asked to show up with a camera and create it on the spot. I used available light directed the talent and shot edited scored and voiced the piece. Wise-Man Sports MMA promo (concept piece never aired) I included this concept piece which I also edited to showcase the footage. I directed the 4 camera shoot at a live MMA sanctioned event. I cut the piece to showcase the concept to Wise-Man Sports.
Davis Contemporary Dance Company promo This is a promotional package I directed, cut, and created the music for. It is a longer form package for their website to introduce the company to perspective students.

The Film Festival of Colorado open/editor/original music
I was given footage and permission from the Colorado Film Commission to create an opening for the inaugural year of the film festival. I created the look, style and feel of the piece and wrote the music to underscore the festival greeting the audience. This was shown before each of the 40 films at the festival.
Magic Moments 4 camera live switch Director
I lifted this live cut footage from the closing number of “The Child” for Magic Moments performances which I directed. I contacted the author of the song to obtain permission to use it as a promotional piece for Magic Moments.
